The Olympic Games

Ladies and gentlemen, Good morning! Today I am very glad to have this opportunity to report my teaching ideas to you. My talking topic is The Olympic Games. It is the Reading Part of Unit 8 Senior One. Now, Please let me get down to my topic talk. It is made up of 4 parts.
Part One: On Teaching Materials
Aiming at
reading comprehension, it tells something about The Olympic Games. According to the teaching syllabus, the Ss are expected to fully understand the passage. At the same time, they should do some reading, listening and writing. Of course, the Ss can also get some moral lessons from this passage; that is, they should love sports because it can help them to keep their bodies strong and have a good time every day.
Teaching aims:
1.Improve the students’
readingability by fast-reading and
careful-reading.
2. Enable the students to master the information of some passages
about the Olympic Games, as well as the language points.
3. Train the students to love and take an active part in the sports.
Key and difficult question:
How to further develop the Ss’
readingability by
learning the text.
Part Two: On Teaching and Learning Methods
When I deal with it, I’ll try to use the following methods:
1. Discuss the method to make the students understand what they’ve
learned better.
2. At the same time, I’ll try to
enlighten the Ss in the course of teaching. I’ll try to adopt the student-centred teaching style, getting every student to take an active part in teaching-and-learning activities through PairWork or Group Work.
3. In order to make the lesson
lively and interesting, I’ll try to use modern equipment, e.g. computer; software; powerpoint. I’ll also use a lot of pictures, material objects, gestures and so on.
Part Three: On Teaching Process
It’s made up of 5 steps.
Step 1 Greetings
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step 2 Lead-in and Pre-reading
Have a free talk with the whole class. then play a song Hand in Hand for them to enjoy. Tell the Ss what they will learn in this period ——The Olympic Games. Ask the students the following questions by Showing two pictures talking about Liu Xiang and Yao Ming, at the same time the teacher can do some sketching on the blackboard.
Do you like sports?
Which sport do you like best?
Who is your favorite sport star?
Then the teacher can ask the Students this question:
