The IMF is a specialized agency of the United Nations that has a wide-ranging brief to oversee the internationalmonetarysystem and to promote exchange rate stability and international trade. It provides funds to member countries with balance of payments problems, to support their policies of economic adjustment and reform. It is funded by subscriptions from member states whose drawing rights and voting powers are accordingly determined by their subscriptions.
