The first moments of our morning often set the tone for the rest of the day. We know the early hours are important but
repeatedly we find ourselves running late, angry and frustrated, grabbing whatever food is available as we hurry out the door! We are behind before we even begin.
While many of us are stuck in a busy
routineseemingly impossible to alter, we can make simple changes that result in dramatic results improving not only our mornings but our entire day as well!
Mornings do not have to be
hurried and hectic. They can be peaceful and energizing if we follow these five simple tips.
Get enough sleep. It is difficult to have a great day when you are exhausted and dragging. We often under estimate how much sleep we really require; most of us need about eight hours. If you wake up easily without an alarm you know you are getting enough sleep!
Begin your morning with good thoughts. Instead of reviewing your list of "to-dos", as you get out of bed, try filling your first thoughts of the day with some
positive thoughts. You may, repeat a morning affirmation, (I will make this a great day), remind yourself of five things for which you are grateful, or say a short prayer. Whatever helps you focus on
positive thoughts to begin your day will make a difference.
Deep breathing gets you going. Each morning as you get ready for the day, try
taking a few full breaths. Slowly fill your lungs with oxygen expanding your tummy.
Working out,
taking a yoga class, or a brisk walk are all great options for a morning
routine but most of us do not engage in something quite so structured. If you are one of those who need a slower start to the day, at least do some stretching and deep breathing. Even five minutes of stretching will help you feel awake.
Have a healthy breakfast. Often, if we have breakfast at all, it consists of a cappuccino and a few doughnuts. Neither option will get you off to a good start! Breakfast does not have to be elaborate but you will feel better throughout the day if you eat something healthy in the morning. A piece of fruit, some complex carbohydrates (whole grain toast or bagel), and a little
protein (almonds or yogurt), will do the trick!
While our mornings are often hectic, we can make them pleasant. Just a few small changes in our
routines can make a
significant difference in our entire day! It is easier than you think, just follow these five tips, and see how you feel!
