Mother, your tight hug makes me feel pain

野地把土豆的饱满

一颗颗吐出

又收回。妈妈，只有你

为什么把我愈抱愈紧

The floor holds mud tight and then loosens it,

The wild area brings forth full potatoes and then takes them back.

Mother, why do only you hold me more and more tight?

好像我是地里捡来的

生怕一松手，就会被一路追来的尘土

突然抢走，妈妈

还记得你给我讲的土豆娃娃的故事吗

It seems that I was picked up in the field,

You are afraid that once you loosen your grip,

I will be suddenly taken away by the dust following us all the way.

Mother, do you still remember the story of Baby Potato that you told me?

你说我是爸爸从土豆田里拾来的

当春风吹过蓝花花的沃野

爸爸追赶着你，爸爸说

蓝花花的蓝天衬着你

最美

You said I was picked up by father in the potato field.

When spring wind blew over the blue fertile land,

Father ran after you and said

When you were in silhouette against the blue sky,

You were the most beautiful.

妈妈，你说当沃土把白白胖胖的土豆

一颗颗吐出的时候，爸爸把最大的那一颗

抱起，它就变成了我，妈妈

你用最甘甜的乳汁喂养了我

Mother, you said when the fertile land put forth plumb potatoes,

Father picked up the biggest one

Which turned into me.

Mother, you fed me with the sweetest milk.

　　

其实我知道，妈妈，是你生出了我

妈妈，你是世界上最最肥美的土地啊

妈妈，你为什么不肯松一松手

是不是怕我醒来

看不见你会哭？妈妈，记得上次

Mother, actually I knew it was you who gave birth to me

Mother, you are the most fertile land in the world

Mother, why do you refuse to loosen your hands?

Maybe because you are afraid I may cry if I can't see you when I awaken.

Mother, I remember last time

我哭个不停，让你心疼了好几天

妈妈，我再也不哭了

妈妈，我再也不睁眼了

我怕我一醒来呀，就看到你泪流满面

I cried all the time, which tugged at your heartstrings for several days.

Mother, I won't cry any more,

Mother, I won't open my eyes any more,

I am afraid that once I wake up, I will see tears streaming down your cheeks.

妈妈，其实我知道，我真的是土地里

挖出来的，妈妈，你把我种回土地吧

你说，到明年，风吹过开着小蓝花的田野

到时候，我就会发出又白又壮的新芽

妈妈，你一定要记得，重新把我从土里挖出来呀

Mother, actually I knew I was really dug out of the land.

Mother, please plant me in the land again.

Next year when wind blows over the field where little blue flowers bloom

I will put forth white and strong new buds again.

Mother, please remember to dug me out of the soil again.

要不然，要不然我一睁眼见不着你

我真的会哭的。妈妈，把我抱得

更紧一些吧，我怕你一松手呀

我就再也见不着你了

Otherwise, I will indeed cry if I can't see you when I open my eyes.

Mother, please hold me more tight.

I am afraid once you loosen your hands,

I won't see you for ever.
