Step 1
Show some pictures about volcano by using the multimedia. Guide them to talk about this topic.
The students discuss what they see in the pictures, which will make them interested in this topic.

Step 2
In order to talk about what volcanoes are and how they are formed, students need to learn some new words.
Try to guess the meaning of theses new words and expressions. Then read after the teacher. Students should be guided to imagine other words which are related with the new words.

Step 3
To explain the new words to students. To help students learn how to use these new words.
Students must be encouraged to make sentences by using the words we have learned.

Step 4

Prepare some exercises about the words for students to practice. Meanwhile, go through the class to see if any student wants help.
Do the exercises by themselves or discuss with their partner.

Step 1






Pre-reading.
Read the questions and make sure students know what to do. Then, ask students to guess what kind of things a volcanologist might do.
Students could do this activity as a survey by asking others in their class these questions. Students should be put into groups to discuss.

Step 2
While-reading.
Ask students to read through the passage quickly to check whether the guesses they made about the work of a volcanologist.
Do the first reading to find out the main idea of this passage.
Then do the further reading to find out answers to the questions in Page35.


Step 3
Check the answers with the students. Then ask students to tell what words they are still unsure about.
Ask the students to read the sentence containing the unknown words and ask the rest of the class to suggest the meaning.
