Ss: OK. Mr Holmes and Dr Watson were waiting....
(Teacher may point out the mistakes after the student finishes his/her retelling. )
One Possible Version:
Mr Holmes and Dr Watson were
waiting in the lady’s bedroom until her uncle came home. After
saying good night to her uncle, she went upstairs. She opened and shut her door, without entering. The
detective and his friend kept the light on for half an hour. After that they waited in silence. Before long, they heard a
metallic noise, and then a pale light came through the hole in the wall. As soon as Holmes saw a snake appearing out of the hole, he used his stick to hit the bell rope with heavy blows. The snake was
driven back to the uncle’s room. Soon, a terrible
scream was heard. Holmes, Watson and the girl rushed into the uncle’s room, and only found him already dead, lying on the floor with the snake around his head.
Step Ⅲ.Listening
T: Do you like the famous
detective sherlock Holmes?
Ss: Yes.
T: Do you like to read the stories about him?
Ss: Yes. Very much.
T: Do you want to be a
detective like him to help find out the criminals?
Ss: Yes, we do want to.
T: OK. Now, today, we’ll listen to a story about murder. Listen to the tape, Part 1 and try to do Ex. 1.
(Teacher plays the tape for Ss to listen. Pause the tape so that the Ss can write down the information they have heard on the tape. Then check the answers with the whole class. )
(Write the answers on Bb. )
T: Now, this time we’ll finish Ex. 2. Listen carefully and write down the questions.
(Play the tape once more. There may be some pauses for Ss to write their sentences. If the Ss have difficulty with any questions, play the tape more times. Then ask some students to say their answers and then check the answers with the whole class. )
(Write the answers on Bb. )
T: Now, do you know who is the killer? Tian Jing, can you guess it?
S: I think this man is just the killer. But I’m not sure.
T: OK. Now, let’s listen to Part 2 to see if you’re correct.
(Play the tape again for Ss to do Ex. 3. Maybe the teacher should give Ss enough time for them to write down their answers. Then check with the whole class. )
T: OK. Now, we know that this man is probably the killer. Maybe you can become a detective, too.
