The First Period

practise the students’
speaking ability.
4. Individual pair or group work to make every student work in class.
Teaching steps:
StepⅠ Warming up
1. Talk about the national
holiday plan.
T: National Day is coming and we will have several days off . Have you made a plan for your holiday?
Ss: Yes.
T: Would you like to listen to my plan first?
Ss: Yes.
T: I’m
considering going to Yangzhou to see my nephew. As Yangzhou is very far, I’m
considering going there by train because it is fast and cheap, and I can enjoy the beautiful
scenery along the railway, which will make me relax and feel comfortable.
Now it’s your turn to talk about your plan for the holiday, try to use “consider doing”. If you plan to travel, try to say like this:
I’m going to …
I have considered going to … by … because …
(Teacher gives the students a few minutes to prepare and then ask some students to talk about their plans.)
2. Talk about what you should do and what you shouldn’t do in public places. Please have a
discussion in groups of four and offer your advice according to the form.

3. Talk about the four pictures on page 15.
T: Ok. Now open your books on page 15 and look at the four pictures in it. Discuss in pairs and see if the people in the pictures are doing anything wrong.
(After a while, the teacher asks at least four students to talk about the pictures before the class.)
Step Ⅱ Listening
1. Do Ex.1 on page 15
T: Now let’s do some listening. First, part 1. Listen to three boarding calls. Write down the correct destinations,
flight numbers and gates. Now look at your books on Page 15 and go through Exercise I and make sure you know what you must do before listening.
( After a while, teacher plays the tape for the students to listen for the first time to get the general idea. Then teacher plays the tape twice for the students to do the exercise. If the students have any difficulty, teacher plays it once more. At last, teacher checks the answers before the class.)

(Teacher plays the tape for the students to listen and write down their answers, then asks some students to read their answers.)
StepⅢ Speaking
( Show the students a picture of Doraemon)
T: Do you know him? Yes, he is Doraemon. He has a time machine, with which he could travel to the past or the future. If you have such a machine, you can visit any year and any place you wish. Suppose you also have a time machine. Which year would you like to go to ? where would you go? And why? Work in pairs according to the form on page 16 and then make up a dialogue with your
partner following the example on page 16.
(Teacher gives the students a few minutes to work in pairs.)
Step Ⅳ Acting out
Ask some pairs to act out their dialogues.
Step Ⅴ Summary and Homework
T: Today we’ve done some listening and speaking, and known how to choose means of transportation. Also we’ve imagined traveling to many places to the future or the past.
