Evening Standard Hopes for London's bid to host the 2012 Olympics received a major boost after Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon threw his weight behind the bid. His endorsement came days after Nelson Mandela gave his backing. The 65–year-old New Zealander said Britain had already proved it could host a major international sporting event following the success of Manchester's Commonwealth Games in 2002.
Times Oxford University is cashing in on the lucrative world of merchandising, with its endorsement of goods ranging from T- shirts, champagne, garden tools and baby clothes. The university is hoping to offer many more such goods with the Oxford stamp of approval in the near future.
