The head of the New York Stock Exchange said on Wednesday he does not believe the European Union will force Greece to
abandon the euro amid the current debt crisis.
In the past two days, Greece has appeared to signal it would like to leave the euro, Duncan Niederauer, chief
executive of NYSE Euronext (NYX), said here at a
gathering of the Detroit Economic Club.
He added however, that he believes it is
extremely unlikely other EU nations will force Greece out of the common currency.
'It's Greece
trying to exit themselves because they won't be asked to leave,' Mr. Niederauer said.
'This idea that other member states are going to kick somebody out--it has to be unanimous,' he said. 'It's simply not going to happen.'
