Display imageDark smoke billows out yesterday from the construction site of a cigarette factory in Shanghai. No casualties were reported in the fire at 877 Changyang Road, which was probably caused by mishandling in the process of electric welding, workers said. The building belongs to Shanghai Tobacco Group, one of the biggest state-owned companies in Shanghai and China, and is meant to be the new manufacturing site for the company's leading brand, Chunghwa. The fire was put out in about 15 minutes, but thick black smoke could be seen for kilometers and was even blown to the Lujiazui area on the other side of the Huangpu River.
