China's central bank has published a research report
saying the
consumer price index is expected to rise by 4.6 percent this year. It also forecasts that CPI will be up by around five percent in the first half of 2008.
According to the report, GDP growth is expected to be at 11.6 percent in 2007 and 10.8 percent in 2008. It says the current rise in the general level of prices is evident, as the country has been experiencing strong growth in demand.
The central bank predicts upward pressure on the CPI will ease as long as food prices remain stable,
saying the CPI increase may slow after December.
