1. To introduce Ss to the topic “ Good friends”.
2. To learn to use adj. To describe friends.
3. To listen, focusing on key words and details.
4. To help Ss to find the solutions to their problem
II. Teaching Procedures
Step1: Warming up
1. Greeting
T: Good morning, every class. I am glad to see you in my English class. I
am your new English teacher and you can call me_______. Now you are the
students of
senior middle school. Undoubtedly, you will here experience
three unforgettable years. The times you spend here will become the
important part of your memory, so you should
cherish it and not waste any
time.
2. Lead in
T: You have just finished your military training, right? As you have
already spent several days training together, have you remembered all your
classmates and have you found any one who you think can later be your good
friend?
(Ask several students to talk something about the topic.)
T: Everyone has friend, when you come to a new place, new friends will
make you feel happy and comfortable. In our first class, we will discuss
something about friendship and provide you with the chances to introduce
yourself to your classmates.
① Ask Ss to do self-description.
T: If you want to make friends with others, you should have a good
understanding of your qualities. You can choose some adj. words to
describe yourself.
(Ask Ss to using the pattern: I think I am____, ____and ____.
Write down the adj. words.)
② Ask Ss to describe a good friend they have get and give the examples
of the situations where friends have helped them. Using the questions:
Q1: Have you got a good friend?
Q2: Will you say something about this friend? Using the pattern: He /She
is _____, _____ and______.
(Write down the adj. words)
Q3: Did he/she give you any help? In what kind of situation?
③ Ask other Ss to
replenish their understanding of the qualities their
friends should have.
T: If you want to make new friends, what do you think your friend should
like?
S: I think he/she should be ____,_____and_____.
T: I will give you other words to describe a good friend. (honest, smart,
brave, loyal, kind, humorous, enthusiastic, kind, happy, strong,
beautiful, handsome, funny)
(using the following chart and explain some new words)
Smart: showing intelligence, clever. eg: a smart student
Brave: ready to face danger, pain and suffering; having no fear.
Loyal: true and faithful.
Humorous: having or showing a sense of humor; funny.
Enthusiastic: full of enthusiasm. eg: She is very
enthusiastic bout
singing.
④ Group work: Ask 4 Ss a group to discuss about a 5-star friend in
their mind.
T: We have used some adj. words to describe the qualities a good friend
should have. Which ones do you think are the most important? Discuss with
your group members and I will ask one of you to express your idea to you
classmates.
