The Second Period Listening
Teaching targets:
1. Target language
a. words and expressions:
Los Angelis Lakers, Miami Heat, Manchester United, Leeds
b. Comunications:
On the way to this year’s play-offs Ronaldo has done more than just playing football.
2. Ability goals
Enable the students to improve their listening ability by listening to the test.
3. Learning ability goals
Help the students learn how to pick out detailed information from what they hear on the tape.
Teaching important points
Listen to a sports report about choosing sports star of the year and learn to make a dicision.

How to improve the Ss’ listening ability.

Step I Revision
To review the sports words.
Step II Warming up
Talk about the pictures on the screen. About matches and sports stars.
Step III Listening
Task 1: Brainstorming(encourage Ss to tell me as many words about that as possible)
Purpose: to work as a guide of listening part
Task 2: Listen to three sports reports and fill in the missing information
Purpose: In this activity, the students will hear three sports reports about basketball, football table tennis. It is what they are interested in and to learn to understand sports news report.
Step 4. Homework Assignment
Task: Find out some background information about the Olympics. Teacher will offer them some websites as well:

Purpose: This activity is related to the reading material of next period. To encourage Ss to find out the information by themselves.
