After greetings and revision. Let the Ss learn the new words and expressions of this period.

A.Ask the Ss to answer the following questions.
1. How many countries and regions are the4re in the world?
(about 200)
2. How many languages are there in the world?
(It’s hard to say. As I know there are more than two thousand)
3. How many languages are used as the
working languages of the United Nations?
(There are five. They are Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish)
B.Ask the students to read the dialogue and answer the questions.
1. What is it that Joe can’t find in the bathroom?
(It ‘s the toilet)
2. why can’t he find it?
Perhaps when Joe says “bathroom,” he means a place, where there is a toilet. But in Nancy’s eyes, it is a place where people can only have a bath.
Note;
toilet (不文雅用语) loo (英口语) WC =water closet
家庭用 washroom, bathroom
公用: rest room (US) lavatory (Br.)
委婉用 comfort station (US) public conveniences (Br)
Step 3 Listening.
1. Listen to the tape carefully.

practise the dialogue with their
partner and act them out.
2. Complete the following sentences on page 9—10.

everyday life and use it as much as I can. As long as the person I speak to understand English. I’ll talk to him in English. I think it is a good way to
practise my English.)

Listen to the tape of the text, answer the following questions.

(There are more than 42 countries)

(Many people speak English as a first or a second language.)

(We can use English to
communicate with people around the world through the Internet.)
