II. Teaching Procedures
Step1. lead-in(Part2 on page 58)
Well, today we are going to learn a new unit. Before we learn the new
lesson, first let’s do a guessing game:
Think about things we use in our daily life. Describe one or two such
things to your classmates and see if he/she can guess what are you
describing. Following
sentence pattern may help you.
l What does it look like?
l What is it used for?
l What is it made of?
l Who usually uses it?
l How do people use it?
l How does it work?
l When is it used?
l Where do you usually see it?
(Ask some volunteers to describe things in front of the class.)
Step2. Warming up (Brainstorming)
Well, very good! You are very active and your imaginations are
wonderful. You all are very clever, so now let’s turn to page 57, look at
the 1st part WARMING UP. Here are some creativity tests.
1. Useful things: use your mind to think of new uses of the 3 objects
as many as you can.(Various answers)
2. Talk box: How many words can you make by moving the sides of
box?(Emphasis on explaining the choices and solutions)
3. True of false:3 questions. (Answers: T,F,T)
Step. 3 Listening
Part1.(page 57)
1.Pre-listining
1) Introduction: Here you are going to hear descriptions of
everyday objects then try your best to guess what are being described.
2) Some new words used: centimeter, thumb, button, shelve.
2.While-listining
Listen to the tape and
identify what is being described one by one.
3.Post-listining
1) Talk about the possible uses of the things described.
2) Revise the Present Passive Voice while talking about the
possible uses.
Part2.(page 133,Workbook)
1.Pre-listining
1) Introduction: Here you are going to hear about the International
Space Station.
2) Ask the students to say something about the Space Station.
3) Some new words used: European Space Agency, contribution,
laboratories, power source, astronauts.
4) Extension: The Europe Space Agency involves 11 countries. The
manned Shenzhou-5 spacecraft (or Divine Vessel)
Taikonaut is an English
nickname based on the Chinese word for space,
"taikong."

Listen to the tape and complete the information chart.
Check the answer one by one
