On May 3rd, FIFA, the world football governing body, ruled in its executive committee that the venue of the 2003 Women's World Cup would be removed from China because of the danger of SARS. The next day, Sun Wen, top star of the China women's football team and three-time FIFA womanplayer of the year, announced that she fears neither SARS nor the change in venue of the tournament, saying: "The most important thing is to keep up your confidence in times of difficulty. This is the only way to victory."
Sun Wen, who joined NBA star Yao Ming in a public activity on May 5 to encourage people to fight SARS bravely, returned to the China team preparing for the Asian Cup despite age and injuries. In a sense, she set a good example of how to "keep up confidence in times of difficulty".
